The Government continues its policy of close engagement with the United Kingdom in relation both to preparations for a no-deal Brexit and for the future relationship with the European Union.
In the latter context, a group of senior officials from the UK Department of Business, Enterprise Innovation and Skills has been on a two-day visit to Gibraltar and met with officials led by the Attorney General Michael Llamas and including the Financial Secretary Albert Mena. Read more

Following on from its decision, announced by the Minister for Education at the Budget session of Parliament, to make all the 15 Special Needs Co-ordinators (SENCOs) full time, an additional 16 posts have been provided to take account of the increased school population following Key Stage re-alignment and the consequent expansion of the new, co-educational Comprehensive Schools. This means that, together with five posts which were vacant, a total of 36 teachers have today been informed that they will be added to the complement. Read more

Together Gibraltar is expressing concern that what seems like careless planning will unnecessarily strain our infrastructure and create discomfort for both visitors and the local community, as the road closures announced for many of the events, coupled with a limited bus service, will almost certainly prove a recipe for chaos on our roads. Many of the road events and closures are taking place during weekdays, some at key ‘rush hour’ times such as 5.30pm. Read more

Some 1000 people have already made use of the newly opened Europa (Nuffield) Pool complex since it opened on Friday.
The complex is an existing facility which was owned and operated by the Ministry of Defence until it was transferred to the Gibraltar Government and no provision was then made for specific access and use by people with disabilities. Read more

The GSD has welcomed that the Government has finally recognised that the cleaning of our streets and public places is inadequate, it has been for some years now, and the GSD has been constantly calling for this to be addressed. However, the news that the tax payer will have to foot the bill for new equipment, for a six-million-pound contract that was only awarded in June last year is shocking. Read more

HMS Echo was the first of two multi-role hydrographic survey ships commissioned by the Royal Navy. With her sister ship, HMS Enterprise, they form the Echo class of survey vessels. Yesterday, the Press was invited to go onboard. Read more

In a ceremony at City Hall, Lance Corporal Liam Conroy of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment was awarded the Mayor’s Silver Award for lifesaving. The award recognises Liam’s actions in August last year, which resulted in a fellow soldier’s life being saved. Read more
