The 2019 Island Games are underway and Saturday's opening ceremony won't be remembered for it's glorious sunshine. Despite the blustery weather, a lot of people came out in their masses to witness the spectacle live. It was our first time hosting the event since 1995 and everyone couldn't wait.

At the well-attended Annual General Meeting, held on 3 July, the membership unanimously elected their new Board for the next twelve months. Joey Imossi was elected as the Chairman, Nick Cruz as Vice-Chairman, Mark Bridge as Secretary,
Subash Malkani as Treasurer, and Kyra Romano-Scott, Lesley Nuttall, Raquel Moss, and Charles Bottaro as Board members.

Having seen recently on the news, the disdain and lack of respect with which the EU leaders treated the Prime Minister Theresa May at the G Summit, their behaviour towards us in the recent past does not surprise me anymore. Their loutish manner at the photo call was a disgrace; so much for their European standing. It was most definitely a brush off in the worst possible taste that I have witnessed in years. It denoted an air of bullishness come brusqueness, born out of a deep dislike for a woman who, after all, tried so hard to appease them. Read more

A Resuscitation Officer was recruited by the GHA on 1st April, it has now been announced.
As part of their role, the Resuscitation Officer will provide Basic Life Support training to members of the public to increase the awareness of cardiac health, cardiac disease, and also to create a greater level of life support trained individuals in our community. Read more

Action for Housing says it welcomes the announcement by Government that it will be constructing a further 228 homes, 44 of which will be for rental and purpose-built for the elderly. The remaining 184 flats will be provided under the so-called affordable Housing scheme. Read more

The Gibraltar 2019 NatWest International Island Games Art Residency is well underway with the artists involved describing the experience as inspiring, stimulating and exciting. The group of 14 artists from numerous participating islands, Gibraltar, and others, have been working on a variety of concepts in a multimedia environment. There has been site-specific work and exciting ideas developed over the last 10 days. Read more

On the advice of the Judicial Service Commission and in accordance with Section 62(1) of the Constitution of Gibraltar, the Governor Lieut General Edward Davis on behalf of the Queen has approved the appointment of Liam Yeats and John Restano QC as Puisne Judges for the Gibraltar Courts.
The Judicial Service Commission conducted the selection process for the two posts of Puisne Judge in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the Judicial Service Act. The posts were advertised in Gibraltar and in England and attracted a significant number of applicants some of whom were shortlisted and interviewed by a board chaired by the President of the Court of Appeal Sir Maurice Kay.
