What is happening in Hong Kong at present is very telling is it not? Ceded to Britain by China in 1842; this once small “strategic” territory was under British rule. Then, after 156 years it reverted to Chinese sovereignty on the first of July 1997. This action taken, I have to add, was not at all popular with its citizens who never wished to be part of Mainland China and tried their best to fight against it. Read more

A team from the University of Gibraltar, comprised of Dr Darren Fa, Director of Academic Programmes and Research, and Dr Jennifer Ballantine Perera, Director of the Institute for Gibraltar and Mediterranean Studies (IGMS), attended the Mediterranean Studies Association (MSA) conference held this June in Crete. At this conference Dr Ballantine Perera took over the Presidency of the MSA Conference for the University of Gibraltar for a period of a year. Read more

Ian Howes who organised the “Walk for Autism’ charity event which consisted of a non-competitive walk from Commonwealth Park to O'Hara’s Battery presented a cheque to the local charity Autism Support Gibraltar amounting to £2576.50, the proceeds of the registrations fees of the walk and individual donations. In the light of recent changes to UK legislation on the use of small unmanned aircraft, including aircraft commonly known as “small drones”, the Government has published a Command Paper amending the Civil Aviation (Air Navigation) Regulations 2009 on the use of these aircraft in Gibraltar.
