READ CHIEF MINISTER'S ELECTION STATEMENT IN FULL
Yesterday saw Chief Minister Fabian Picardo meet with the Governor Lieutenant General Edward Davis before announcing the General Election which is to be held on the 17th of October, just 30 days away.
At a Press conference yesterday, this was the Chief Minister's announcement:
“I have just returned from the Convent where I have advised His Excellency the Governor Lieut General Edward Davis to dissolve the Gibraltar Parliament. I have called a general election for Thursday the 17th of October. Read more

“Before I left for the Lib Dem conference in the UK, the Chief Minister and I agreed when the election would be called and when it would take place. We also agreed I should continue my work in Bournemouth putting across the Gibraltar point of view to the UK Liberal Democrats. The closure of the airport due to a shortage of Air Traffic Controllers undoubtedly did considerable damage to Gibraltar’s reputation. HM Government of Gibraltar says it is extremely disappointed by NATS’ failure to deliver on its obligations and by the resultant negative impact on Gibraltar’s image. It is ironic that Government has just announced a major PR campaign in London in which we claim that ‘Gibraltar is open for business.’ Not yesterday, it wasn’t! Read more

It was anticipated for weeks, many thought the 2019 election announcement was imminent, it was!
The election date has been set for Thursday 17 October, as stated, it did not surprise many people. Though I do believe, it may have taken one or two opposition party members on the hop or even off balance if echoes are correct! Read more
