Two weeks ago, we reported that with an eye on the forthcoming Brexit talks between Britain, Spain and Gibraltar, the La Linea municipality headed by mayor Juan Franco had produced a confidential document asking for the joint use of the Gibraltar airport, which they say would be a big boost for the La Linea economy.
With the serious problems as regards employment, and the economic dependence on Gibraltar, together with the problems arising from drug trafficking and tobacco smuggling, La Linea's municipality says it seeks other measures as well. Read more

Recently, we were crossing the runway on our way back from shopping at a local supermarket, when we saw a couple of young Spanish men walking nonchalantly further and further into the airfield, away from the paths demarcated for both pedestrians and bicycles. Read more

The Government says it is not surprised that the negotiating guidelines of the European Council once again single out Gibraltar for special mention. This is in line with a similar approach that the EU took in previous documents in 2017 and 2018.
It should not come as a shock to anyone that the EU should adopt the position of Ireland on Northern Ireland, the position of Cyprus on the UK Sovereign Bases and the position of Spain on Gibraltar. Read more

No sooner, are we over the national sadness of leaving the EU last Friday, sarcastically speaking! When as expected, the EU and Spain have wasted little time to cynically ramp up tension, to create another confrontational political setting over the Rock. Even before negotiations start between the UK, Gibraltar, Spain and the EU to discuss future trade talks and the Rocks future relations with Spain and the region. Read more
