With one month to go to Brexit, the mayor of La Linea Juan Franco is showing concern about the 'situation of uncertainty' lingering on. And what makes matters worse for them, in his judgement, is that on 31 October Spain will still not have a government.
Thus, any measures to soften any adverse effects fom the UK's exit of the European Union wll not be in black upon white before the end of the year. Read more

A Dementia conference, hosted by the Elderly Residential Services, took place ysterday at the King’s Bastion Leisure Centre. The conference, themed ‘See the person, not the dementia’ included key speakers from the UK; Chris Roberts, from the BBC1 Panorama documentary named ‘Living with Dementia: Chris’s Story’ and Simon McDermott. The recently inaugurated LNG North Mole Power Station is already making economic as well as environmental sense.
The Man engines, fitted as they are with filtration mechanisms, and burning natural gas, are already benefitting the environment and reducing Gibraltar’s Carbon footprint. When the power station runs on gas, as compared to diesel, these engines are resulting in an almost total absence of particulates, a 99% reduction in sulphur dioxide emissions, 90% reduction in emissions of Nitrogen oxides and 44% reduction in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions. This will be equivalent of a reduction of over 65,000 tonnes of CO2 in a year to Gibraltar’s carbon footprint. Read more

The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia continued the Government’s communications strategy in relation to a No Deal Brexit with a briefing to the Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association. The Association represents the on-line gaming industry in Gibraltar.
The detailed briefing, which lasted nearly two hours, was delivered by Dr Garcia together with the Government’s Civil Contingency Coordinator Ivor Lopez. Read more

On the inside sleeve off my book “Memories bound up with life” is written; “at this moment I have felt inspired to wander back, rediscovering in the past a present to remember.” it has reminded me that looking back is healthy, because in so doing there are comparisons to be made between days gone by and now; comparisons which help us to see how far we have come on our journey through life; in the life of our small nation. In so doing, understand what strides we have made, but also what precious things have been lost along the way; like a code of conduct we all lived by which in modern times has lost its appeal, sadly. However, what I have found in rediscovering the past, is something that time has neither erased, nor been affected by the passing of the years; i.e. the determination of the Gibraltarians to live their lives as British citizens and survive any onslaught from Spain.
