Winners of GBC sports awards

The winners of the GBC Sports Awards, celebrating sporting achievement in 2019, are as follows in each category:

GBC SENIOR SPORTS INDIVIDUAL OF THE YEAR

Winner: Jessy Franco. Jessy’s year was marked with success as he claimed 2 gold medals at the Island Games as well as breaking the National records in the 100, 200 and 400m. He then competed in Doha at the World Championships achieving a personal best in the 100m.  Read more

Former Governors send letter of support and solidarity

Gibraltar’s former Governors have written an open letter to all Gibraltarians to express their support and solidarity in the face of the global coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. The letter applauds the unshakeable Gibraltarian spirit and promises to urge the Government of the United Kingdom to offer whatever practical and financial assistance it can to help Gibraltar overcome the challenges we face. The letter has been welcomed by the Chief Minister, the Hon Fabian Picardo, who sent a reciprocal message of hope and unity.  Read more

Car Parks Limited Launches Website to Offer Online Services

As part of the recent COVID-19 measures to close public counter services, Gibraltar Car Parks Limited will be launching a website to offer online services as from Monday 23rd March at noon.

The website will feature general information, payment and Residential Parking Permit renewal services, further offering downloadable application forms that can then be uploaded via the same website for submission.  Read more

Following an upsurge in layoffs, Unite advises employers to: WAIT AND SEE

With an upsurge of layoffs, the union Unite has been advising such employers to Wait and See. The union has argued for protection of jobs and employment in the private sector through support to employers from government.

Any announced measures are backdated so as those employers that have “jumped” too early and laid off employees can reset that position, re-engage workers and access the support that is made available. "The above is a flavour of what the union has sought on behalf of members from a wide agenda, but the principle is protection for jobs and income regardless of employment status, to ensure that members have jobs to recommence when the crisis has abated,"said Unite's National Officer Stuart Davies.  Read more
