As part of its consumer protection responsibilities the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is monitoring the prices of certain goods for which there has been an elevated demand since the beginning of the Coronavirus crisis. Minister Vijay Daryanani said: “This is not the moment for businesses to take advantage of the situation. We live in unprecedented times, and we need to show consideration towards our people. Our business community will start prospering again. In the meantime, we need to stick together and be patient.” Read more

Gibraltar needs to roll-out a systematic and comprehensive testing policy of people presenting COVID19 type symptoms on a far wider scale than it has previously.
The Leader of the Opposition, Keith Azopardi said: “We understand the issues that have made this difficult in previous weeks but we trust that as from next week when it is technically possible to do so in Gibraltar the Government will ensure that this is done as a priority. Read more

It could well be that the negative coronavirus could give rise to positive politics when it comes to the Spanish problem over Gibraltar.
Certainly, the chief minister Fabian Picardo and the Spanish foreign minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya are now on speaking terms, saying they are working together to solve what needs solving. Read more

Gibraltar, along with the rest of the world, is facing a number of serious daunting challenges. Our ability to withstand them, will depend in no small measure, on how today and the foreseeable future, how we react to the COVID-19 crisis!
As the coronavirus continues to spread at an alarming rate the world over. And after the World Health Organisation (WHO) last week declared a global emergency, which also contributed to a growing sense of alarm, not just in Gibraltar, now recording its first cases of the disease, but across the whole world. Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar notes the decision announced this evening by the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Education to close schools in the United Kingdom.
Additionally, and as a result, the UK examination bodies have determined that they should cancel all GCSE and A-Level examinations for the spring/summer term 2020. Read more
