The Government’s immediate reaction after Tuesday’s meaningful vote in the House of Commons was a measured response by the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo who shortly after the vote expressed the depth of feeling concerning the historic vote emphasising there was a lot at stake for Gibraltar. Mr Picardo also confirmed he would be travelling to the UK next week to attend a number of related meetings lined up in the continuing government endeavour to prepare Gibraltar for all potential eventualities. Minister for Sport Steven Linares has been on a visit to the Myrtha Pools Headquarters in Castiglione della Stiviere, Mantova, Italy. Myrtha have been contracted to construct and install the 52m swimming pool at the Lathbury Sports Complex and the visit was an opportunity to witness the design, engineering and manufacturing processes. In December 2018, the GSD carried out an anonymous survey aimed at public health sector employees. The survey, which attracted 203 respondents, has revealed a staggering 62% have felt bullied, intimidated or harassed at work, with 66% expressing low morale. Read more

The International Adjudicator from the United Kingdom for the 17th edition of the Gibraltar International Dance Festival is Ms Jayne Wing.
Jayne trained at the Drusilla Duffill Theatre School graduating with a Teaching Degree. She was the recipient of the Helen Wingrave scholarship allowing to further her qualifications in National Dance. She was in the original London cast of Annie at the Victoria Palace Theatre and has performed professionally on many occasions, although her passion is teaching. Read more

A new initiative from the organisers of the Gibraltar International Chess Festival will soon see chess professionals head a series of seminars at the University of Gibraltar.
As from January 2020 chess players from around the world will be able to visit the Rock and further their study of chess ahead of and as part of the lead up to the long established 10 day festival which remains a world leader in all open tournaments. Read more

The Care Agency has announced that the opening times for the Waterport Terraces Day Centre for the Elderly have been extended from 4 to 5 days a week. The Centre, which has been providing a very popular service to elderly members of our community since it was inaugurated by Samantha Sacramento in January 2014, is now opening from Monday to Friday. Theresa May's Brexit deal was rejected by a big majority in the House of Commons last night. As many as 432 MPs voted against it and only 202 were in favour, representing a large majority of 230 votes. Read more
