Gibraltar’s Chief minister said some time back “ I think we’ve agreed enough of the substance of the practical arrangements between us, the UK, the EU and Spain, that we might seek to put in place some sort of safety net.” I believe the Government has by now achieved this, and no doubt our community is much relieved to hear it. We all need to feel secure, especially now with what has been going down. Read more

Why the only human group left on the planet are humans
Recently there have been new studies published where it has been reported that complex disease transmission patterns could explain how modern humans were able to wipe out Neanderthals in Europe and Asia, in just a few thousand years; with research coming to the conclusion of why possibly humans, are the only human group left on the planet. One doesn’t have to look back as far as the ice age, to realize that said phenomenon also caused the devastation of entire tribes of people during the New World age; to the point of near extinction. When the realization comes that we have been treading the same boards, on the same stage as we have done for years, and for some strange reason our audience has not changed one iota; one has, not to capitulate, but look at how we have done things in the past, and understand that we have to change the content of the script; not just for survival’s sake alone, but for our future wellbeing, and because we owe it to those who came before! Our stance at the UN has to be revived; it has to be seen with fresh eyes and fresh input; because our performances so far have fallen on deaf ears; or better said; on ears that will not listen. The audience has become stale and we as players need some new strategy that will not so much wake them up, but rock their foundations. Read more

EXTRACT FROM ARTICLE:
The message at present due to the political situation in Spain is that Gibraltar must not drop its guard. I suggest that one way of doing this, is to make sure that we do not have a repetition of the “flag incident” which involved a member of Vox; or for that matter any other similar act; which not only distresses our community, but demeans and embarrasses us; as it portrays us as being incapable of defending our home. From Carmen Gomez Diary:
Last year Trevor Taylor, a professional Research Fellow in Defence Management, wrote on July 24th that haziness on future MOD funding is likely the reason for an update on the modernising defence programme, Read more

“I’m late! I’m late! For a very important date! No time to say hello, goodbye.” The White Rabbit first says to Alice, in Alice through the Looking Glass, without even giving her a moment to introduce herself or the himself the chance to ask her if she needed anything. That’s society today. Rush, rush, rush; no time to stop. Most probably it’s the motto of the “target” brigade; people who wear tracking devices on their wrists; or their belts or even in their underwear, as one lady was seen to proudly produce from her bra. In an era of empowerment; a word that bothers me as I write it; such objectives can take over your life. Read more

Sir Lyndsay Hoyle; Gibraltar’s great friend and defender; the new Speaker of the House of Commons; back in 2014, wrote to the Spanish ambassador to London, complaining about the treatment received by some British people on their way across the border; and the three line response to him at the time was; that this was what “we” should expect as long as “we” continued to pursue outdated colonial desires to occupy a piece of Spain illegally. In October this year it was reported that the then Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union Chris Heaton-Harris, had met with the vice secretary for International relations from Vox, the ultra right group in Spain. According to open Democracy, it had learnt that the minister in question who later resigned in April this year, less than a year after he had been appointed; had discussed Brexit with the far right representative. Power Cuts/ Control Tower
When you hear of Spanish helicopters flying freely over our air space; when you hear of alien boats landing on our shores; when you walk down Main Street on a day when cruise ships are in town and a power cut occurs, yet again due to another power cable being drilled through; all of which is hugely prejudicial to Gibraltar’s interests; when on top of all that you hear that the MOD forgot, or didn’t bother to inform any civilian authorities that they had laid down an electric cable, and that yet more flights have been diverted to Malaga because there was no one available to man the control tower; you have to wonder whether our authorities are really in control of the safety and smooth running of Gibraltar’s affairs and whether the MOD has some hidden agenda. Now that the dust is settling on the electioneering front, no doubt it will be time to look to the wider stage i.e. Brexit. The next few days will also no doubt be a time for the raising of questions and comments from members of the political parties, as to how they thought their parties presented themselves in their televised appearances etc. and whether the content of their manifestoes worked or not. Some candidates may even feel they were simply there to prop up others; if you know what I mean. Read more
