Last week, we heard exiting Mps express their dismay, to put it mildly, with words such as “Our values no longer find expression” “We are tired of labels” “We don’t want to be patronized” etc. Words which give rise to a scenario of British politics being consumed and squandered. Phrases; some of which are not dissimilar to our own echoed in the past. One MP even spoke of Westminster as an egocentric place which is alien to them; where one dare not tread. Read more

I remember starting a chapter in my memoirs which I titled “Back in the old familiar streets on Market Day.” It came to mind because it is about the sweet recollection of the past; of our memories; and it’s a fact that nowadays, we have become very aware of the ailments of old age, and sometimes not so old, which afflict so many all over the world, including this small and kind nation of ours. Yes I believe that a peaceful demonstration might be in order, to voice our concerns; for whilst once upon a time it was always the policy of the Foreign Office to come out saying that although the Spanish pretensions were “certainly very irritating; in fact no one takes much notice of them.” Well, the world has moved on, and guess what, they do now! I find myself writing about a film which has been brought to my attention; a film to be released in 2020, under the title “Misbehaviour.” My particular interest here is that it has been written about the Miss World contest of 1970, which I took part in. Keira Knightley stars. In fact from what I have gathered, a few of the contestant’s roles have already been cast, with my part being played by an Italian actress, by the name of Elena Marotta. I heard that her name had been mentioned recently as being a possibility to play the young Ava Gardner, in a film of her life. Read more
