While Spanish commercial fishing vessels continue to fish with impunity in Gibraltar waters, often in plain sight of the authorities who take no action, local anglers comply with all legislation. This often entails specific bans on species such as octopus and tuna and should they fail to do so, they face fines. They have no objection to this provided the rules are applied to all and not just locals, says the GSD. Read more

The Self Determination for Gibraltar Group (SDGG) are pleased to confirm that this year’s National Celebrations will be held from Friday 23rd August to the Tuesday 10th September.
The SDGG is working with the Gibraltar Cultural Services to produce a programme of events for the three weeks. The programme will include the Annual Gibraltar Fair, Art and Photographic Competitions amongst other cultural and social events including the National Day events on Tuesday 10th September 2019. In what was another great evening of darts, David Francis survived an early scare to take this year’s Joe Goldwin darts trophy.

The World of Science Fiction an Art Exhibition comprising of 84 paintings featuring the works of Local Artist Aaron A. Seruya opened up on Monday at the Fine Arts Gallery. The exhibition which features new paintings based on the popular Star Wars franchise as well as some based on the Marvel and DC Movies. Read more

You are not new to trade unionism, but of late you seem to have propelled yourself to a higher plane. What exactly is your background?
I have a legal background, as I was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2001. I started my career in private practice, but joined the civil service at the Crown Council grade in 2005. I became President of the GGCA in 2012 and continue in this role to date. Read more

HM Customs Marine Station received a distress call from the Ocean Village Pier Master claiming that an individual was drowning. Officers were deployed immediately and upon arrival were directed to an elderly man in great difficulties in the water between his vessel and the pontoon. Read more

Gibraltar yesterday saw the official opening of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal that was recently completed by Shell and Gasnor (a 100% Shell-owned subsidiary). As a result, Gibraltar is switching from diesel-fuelled power generation to cleaner-burning natural gas, using a newly commissioned 80-megawatt gas-fired power plant. Read more

It’s fair to say most people care what happens in and to Gibraltar.
The Truth Hurts!
Personally I’ve been asked the question “Do I Care” when over the years people have approached me countless times on certain issues they want me to write about, cover or expose in Panorama. The truth is, I probably care too much on a number of issues that have direct consequences on people’s lives. Although this has not always served me or members of my family well, particularly living in a small nation-community like ours, where things which ‘shouldn’t go... does’ and common sense is often thrown out the window and trampled on by people and the passing traffic. Together Gibraltar visited the Stay Clean Charity last week as part of its Community Partnership Programme.
The event was very well attended and served to highlight the need for a call to action particularly in the following key areas; shortage of treatment times, availability in an emergency scenario when users most need support, as well as the lack of beds available in Ocean Views and Bruce’s Farm.
