Gibraltar is truly blessed. It has a great many influential friends abroad; or certainly well connected; both in the UK and in America. I no longer feel like we walk alone, as I felt some years back when I sometimes despaired at too little engagement. Time as always of course, will see the fruition of good intentions. The relationships fostered and bonds formed have come about through years of lobbying by our Government leaders. This is an indisputable fact! Groundwork and hard graft have gained us this welcome support which must give us much comfort and weight in the political arena. Read more

In addition to the major refurbishment works to the large housing estates at Moorish Castle, Glacis and Laguna Estates, the government has also over the last few years embarked on the complete external refurbishment of other buildings which make the Government’s Housing stock. Read more

Yesterday saw the court proceedings in regards to the Iranian Grace 1 supertanker, and the US Department of Justice’s request for it to further detain the vessel. The tanker has been a big topic in Gibraltar since its detention on the 4th July, and many people seem to be confused by its significance and why should Gibraltar, which is not responsible for foreign affairs and defence, have taken a lead role and not the UK. The media loves to have its fun and sometimes enjoys presenting Ministers as inept and comical. But there are those of us who believe that in general; putting aside the quixotic and the eccentric; including one such as Boris Johnson of whom so much derogatory character description has filled the columns of newspapers and political chat; it can be said that there is always a great deal of method behind the apparent, shall we say, quirkiness. Some may even venture to consider they have not come across a man with better motives, for the trouble he causes. Read more

Many smiles as students from Westside, Bayside and the College got their AS and A Level results early in the morning. Results were issued to the students from 8am, in contrast to the UK where they receive their results at 9am. These results will give students the qualifications needed in order to apply to University if they so choose to go.

In August alone, 3 clubs; Leo F.C, Phoenix F.C, and Gibraltar United F.C have dropped out of senior football, with Leo F.C resigning from the league and ceasing operations, Phoenix F.C’s owners withdrawing as no buyers came forward, and Gibraltar United F.C having difficulties with debts. Instead of having the expected 16 teams participating in the National League, there will now only be 13.
