The GSD says that the failure to regulate foreign net fishing in Gibraltar waters illustrates how the entire GSLP policy in this area has been a mess since day one. The announced increase in the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna quota further highlights the policy confusion and is contrary to the views of local experts within GONHS and the Nautilus Project and many international experts. The GSD makes clear that it disagrees with the now annual increase in the Tuna fishing quota within Gibraltar waters. Blufin Tuna is an endangered species and it makes no sense whatsoever for the quota to be routinely increased. Read more

A Bill was published on Friday to increase the number of elected members of Parliament from 17 to 25. This follows the recommendation made by the Select Committee on Parliamentary Reform to the Gibraltar Parliament on 9 May.
The number of Ministers remains the same. This increase applies to Members of Parliament only and is proposed initially on a trial basis. Read more

The number of Elected Members of the Gibraltar Parliament be increased from 17 to 25, says a motion from the Chief Minister, adding that the maximum number of votes that can be cast by an elector in elections to the Gibraltar Parliament be increased from 10 to 15. Read more

In a lengthy statement, Together Gibraltar notes 'with concern the recent publishing of a proposal bill to extend Parliament to include backbenchers under the guise of enhancing democracy. Party leader Marlene Hassan Nahon says she raised this months ago when parliamentary reform was first suggested and our position has always been that reform should take time, with a thorough consultation process and not be rushed through at the eleventh hour before and impending election. The GSLP Government’s recent decisions to demolish the Queen’s Cinema and use the site for temporary parking will be reversed if the GSD win the next elections and the demolition has not occurred by then. The GSD calls on Government to halt the prospective demolition. Read more
