EU Official Confirms: “We Are Brexit Ready”
Bearing in mind Gibraltar was the only British Overseas Territory that got to vote in the referendum which saw the single biggest Remain vote in any British constituency when 95.91% voted to Remain and just over 4% to Leave the EU.
I personally doubt those figures or anywhere near or a similar result would be replicated today if another referendum was held, particularly from a Gibraltar perspective. There’s so much murky dirty waters and bad blood that has done the rounds, with the hostile anti-Gibraltar EU Brigade who with Spain, flew its true colours.
How did we get here, no doubt we have to shift some blame to those hopeless politicians back in London for that. Three times the UK parliament voted down the Brexit deal negotiated by London and Brussels, which was approved by the entire EU governments.
This political deadlock over the way ahead obviously and as predicted brought down Theresa May, and has twice forced a delay to the UK’s and Gibraltar’s so-called scheduled departure date from the EU. It has now set for a couple of month’s time on October 31.
As most would know the British parliamentary approval for the exit deal is one of the conditions necessary for its terms to take effect. Without it, the default legal position is that the United Kingdom and us will leave the European Union without an agreement!
The deal itself consists of two parts: a Withdrawal Agreement covering the terms of the UK’s exit, and a Political Declaration setting out a framework for future relations.
