Construction workers materialise the ideas that architects translate into plans and sketches. However, their participation in the building of buildings is generally taken for granted, and their work not recognised. They perform a tough job, sometimes badly paid and with poorly conditions when employed by “cowboy” construction companies. The news that a major gaming company is advising employees not to work from home if they live in Spain is a direct effect of the negative and harmful Tax Treaty entered by the Government, says the GSD.
The GSD says it has been warning for months that the Treaty was bad for jobs and bad for business. It is a disincentive to doing business from Gibraltar and to the attraction of inward investment. It has been reported that the action taken by this major gaming company is only “one of several locally based companies which are taking action in response to the Tax Treaty signed with Spain.” Read more

In the event of a major terrorist attack, the lead agency responsible for coordinating and delivering a response is the Royal Gibraltar Police.

The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, will extend his weekly community meetings beyond
No 6 Convent Place to include locations across Gibraltar.
This exciting new format for Chief Minister’s community meetings ensures that meetings are accessible to all constituents at convenient locations and on an equal footing, says statement. The Government and the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau have issued a set of six Christmas stamps.
The set of stamps covers the postage values used in Gibraltar for postal operations throughout the Christmas period, and they feature popular Christmas carols that many generations have grown to love. The stamps have been designed by local graphics artist Mr Stephen Perera and have been printed on a high quality special easy peel self-adhesive paper to assist postal users during the busy Christmas period. The Gibraltar National Archives (GNA) will hold an exhibition to celebrate the first 50 years of Archives in Gibraltar. The 50th anniversary exhibition of the Gibraltar National Archives was formally opened yesterday evening by the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia at the Fine Arts Gallery in Casemates. On the 13th August 1940, 1200 Gibraltar evacuees arrived in Madeira - the 80th anniversary the wartime trip.
A return visit is being planned. It will be by coach to Portimao in the Algarve and then a ferry carrying 1000 passengers from Portimao to Funchal Madeira on 11th of August. It will be an overnight journey arriving in Funchal in the afternoon on the 12th August. Read more

On the occasion of Sir Graham Watson’s retirement from Gibraltar House in Brussels, the Chief Minister has thanked him for the work he has done for Gibraltar. He has described Sir Graham as having been Gibraltar’s staunchest supporter in the European Parliament during his time there as an MEP. Read more
