A number of Officers from the Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service have recently completed a Hazardous Materials course at the Fire Service College in Moreton-In-Marsh, Gloucestershire, UK.
Station Officers Jason Mesilio and George Burns and Sub Officer Nicholas Poggio successfully completed the Hazardous Materials First Responder course. Read more

Looted Art historian Shauna Issac discusses a database she created to help establish the provenance of art that was stolen by the Nazis during World War II.
The Nazis looted over one fifth of Western Art during World War II, confiscating art from Jewish families and emptying museums such as the Musée d’Orsay, hiding some of their haul in salt mines and caves. The effects of Nazi looting are still evident today, in contemporary restitution issues and current international recovery efforts. Read more

Autism Support Gibraltar has donated ear defenders to local schools for those pupils who have particularly sensitive hearing.
People who are affected find certain sounds annoying, upsetting and sometimes even painful, making it very difficult to concentrate in class. Read more

John Ghio, Deputy Captain of the Port, was recently invited to take part as a speaker at the 39th Argus Fuel Oil Summit held in Miami, one of the flagship fuel oil and bunkering events in the region. The event offered the opportunity for over 150 participants to engage with key market professionals across the fuel oil, bunker fuel and VGO industries in this part of the world. Industry experts were also able to discuss about what the first year of IMO2020 compliance might look like. Read more

The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, visited the World Travel Market at the ExCeL London exhibition centre. World Travel Market London is the leading global event for the travel industry.
He was welcomed at the Gibraltar stand by Minister for Tourism, Vijay Daryanani, and was able to see at first hand the work done to promote Gibraltar as a tourism destination. Read more

The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society regrets to inform patrons that violinist Michael Barenboim has been forced to withdraw due to illness at this week’s performance, which is sponsored by the Parasol Foundation.
It is however a coup for Gibraltar that Maestro Chichon has secured the services of one of the most important and influential flamenco artists worldwide, Cañizares, to replace Mr. Barenboim at such short notice. Read more

The Chief Minister Fabian Picardo is in London where this week he will be hosting events around Gibraltar Day.
There will be a Finance Centre lunch today Tuesday at The Guildhall and an evening reception in the Gherkin. Those who attend the Finance Centre lunch now pay for their participation whilst the evening event has around 200 specially invited guests and a much sharper political focus. Read more
