At approximately 03:45 this morning, the High Voltage network experienced an earth fault, resulting in a total blackout.
An earth fault is a type of electrical fault where a power cable or other conductor breaks, and comes into contact with the earth, or any conductive material in contact with the earth. When this happens, it can cause damage to equipment, interrupt the continuity of supply, and may even pose a danger to our employees working on the network. Read more

The presence of four Royal Navy warships in Gibraltar this week, all at the same time, will have sent a clear message to Madrid. It is possible to negotiate a treaty and to enjoy good neighbourly relations through an area of shared prosperity but none of this is mutually exclusive to the Rock’s important military role. The Development and Planning Commission (DPC) gave outline planning permission to the proposed development at Rooke in a special meeting yesterday morning. There were no votes against the planning application with every member of the Commission voting in favour except one abstention. A number of conditions and improvements were suggested at the same time. Read more

The ban on the Gibraltar flag from Spanish media coverage of an international cricket match where a local team was playing has understandably been received very badly here. The general consensus is that it is unacceptable that, in this day and age, the Spanish authorities should continue to mix politics with sport in this manner. Read more
