At a meeting in No6 Convent Place, several Government departments met with the Gibraltar Dyslexia Support Group in order to move forward on the ‘Dyslexia Pledge’ which was made by the Chief Minister earlier this year. The Pledge requires companies, educators and governments to value dyslexic thinking and to begin taking positive steps towards supporting it. Read more

The Pledge For Life campaign hosted by the Gibraltar Pro Life Movement (GPLM) ended tonight, after an extremely successful 30 hours of fundraising.
The aim of the Pledge For Life campaign was to encourage the people of Gibraltar to personally contribute to the efforts of GPLM in sharing the pro-life message, educating about the reality of abortion and building upon the CareLink programme which offers support to local families. Read more

His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales held a reception at Buckingham Palace to “Celebrate the Jewish Community of the United Kingdom”. About 400 guests, representing a variety of Jewish organisations, attended. The Jewish Community of Gibraltar was represented by Douglas Ryan, as Gibraltar’s Deputy at the Board of Deputies of British Jews. Read more

The Chief Minister has paid a visit to St Mary’s School, just a few steps away from his office in No6 Convent Place.
The purpose of Mr Picardo’s visit was to take part in the school’s humanities curriculum in which Year 2 children looked at past and present Chief Ministers. Using the recent general elections as their springboard, Year 2 discussed the mechanisms of an election, the role of the electorate in electing our Government and responsible citizenship. Read more

The regulations for the Financial Services Act have now been made public on the GFSC Website (https://www.fsc.gi/regulated-firms/lrp/draft-regs) in anticipation of their formal publication and coming into effect in January 2020.
The public and industry will recall that the new Financial Services Act on which there was extensive consultation prior to its unanimous Parliamentary approval updated and consolidated some 90 disparate pieces of legislation into one framework for financial services; providing then for a series of sector specific regulations the bulk of which regulate each type of financial business such as insurance, banking, investment services etc. Read more

To coincide with the week on which International Day of People with Disabilities was marked, the Ministry of Equality gave a presentation, as part of its Equality Means Business strategy, to members of the GFSB on the 5th of December as part of the GFSB’s Breakfast Club initiative as an introduction to the more in depth training offered by the Ministry. The presentation introduced members to the Disability Equality and Customer Care training seminar, which has already been offered to the public service and some private sector establishments, is now also made available to the GFSB membership. The Minister for Education, Gilbert Licudi, has opened a three-day conference at the University of Gibraltar on Mental Health in Education. The event is part of a training programme intended to enhance knowledge and skills to promote mental wellbeing. Read more
