First we had Frontex getting in on the act and trying to reassure us that everyone is working with our best interests at heart. Then we have the new Spanish foreign affairs minister; do you recall how I said that in Ms Laya we had lost an ally; who says that in his meeting with his London counterpart he has reassured him that Spain intends to comply with the accord reached last Christmas Eve. At about 7.15 yesterday morning, Drug Squad Detectives, supported by both CID Officers and a Dog Handler from the HM Customs Flexible Anti-Smuggling Team (FAST), executed a Search Warrant at an address within Varyl Begg Estate.

Spain has begun to reveal the ace hidden under its sleeve that aims to use the European Union to advance its anachronistic sovereignty claim over Gibraltar. It comes as its new Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, on Tuesday praised the European Union’s draft mandate on Gibraltar that was firmly rejected by Gibraltar and the UK. Madrid has also put pressure on the EU to finalise the one-sided treaty with minimal changes, despite the major discrepancies from what was agreed to last December between Gibraltar, the UK and Spain.
