Apparently, in the year 1888, in May, there was an entry in the Gibraltar Chronicle which read, that the editor had refused to include theatre crits beyond record the fact of performance; and I quote; “Subsequent holders of the chair can bear eloquent testimony to the storm of obloquy (strong public condemnation) which breaks round their heads where every member of the cast is not referred to in terms of praise suitable for a Sarah Bernhardt or a Caruso. The complicated Spanish sovereignty claims with Gibraltar and Morocco in the Strait and elsewhere were given a further twist recently when Madrid launched its further claim to half a million miles of sub-sea continental shelf. Spanish law enforcement is set to deploy drones this this area amidst concerns that these could soon be buzzing around the skies over Gibraltar. While there is a legitimate argument for the use of such equipment against potential wrongdoers, there will always be a fear that Spain could use them for other purposes. Read more
