Next Saturday, the King’s official birthday will be marked in London by the spectacular Trooping of the Colour parade in London, with over 1400 soldiers taking part, 200 horses and 400 musicians. This year the Welsh Guards will have the honour of trooping the colour and for the first time in 30 years, all five regiments of Foot Guards of the Household Division of the Army will be in attendance. The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia on Monday presented the Gibraltar Medallion of Distinction to US Representative David Liston.
The presentation was made during a dinner in New York with members of the Gibraltar American Council. The decision to award the Medallion was taken in 2019, but logistical issues caused by the pandemic prevented its formal presentation until now. Read more

The arrival and departure of HMS Triumph a few days ago saw the usual chorus of complaints from environmentalist groups in the Campo Area. Their views, while genuinely held in certain cases, is nonetheless the product of years of stirring up the issue on the part of Spanish politicians, both at local and state level, who should certainty know better. In a speech dedicated to the children of Gibraltar, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo defended the right of the Gibraltarians to determine their own future before the Committee of 24 of the United Nations yesterday. He arrived in New York on a lightning mission, accompanied by the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia who has stayed behind for an extra day of meetings. Read more

The not guilty verdict from the Stipendiary Magistrate yesterday brought to an end what had virtually become almost one of the “sub-plots” surrounding former Commissioner of Police Ian McGrail. Although the judge ruled that Mr McGrail was not guilty of sexual assault, there are still other fronts open in what is turning out to be a very long drawn out saga. Read more

Currently on the Rock, West Ham’s goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero is the nephew of Childline volunteer, Marie Carmen Lia.
On her recent trip to London, Xavi gave Marie Carmen a shirt signed by all West Ham’s first-team players in order that Childline could use it as a fundraising prize. Read more
