The leader of one of the Basque nationalist parties has suggested that Gibraltarians may regard British sovereignty as providing greater guarantees for the protection and respect of their rights. This, in his view, accounts in part for the decision to remain British and for our refusal to become a part of Spain. Read more

The Earl and Countess of Wessex’s visit to the Rock earlier this month represented an aggressive move on the political chessboard by the UK Government. On face value, the royal visit looks to have irked Spain more than anything else, but the underlying message of Gibraltar’s British sovereignty remained rock solid. The three-day celebrations marking Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee were felt far and wide, not least across the border, where our not-so-friendly media counterparts had sharpened their pitchforks and were ready to strike. The move is also consistent with Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s no-nonsense sovereignty policy, which has seen one of the strongest showings of support in Westminster for Gibraltar for some time. Hundreds of people filled Casemates Square on Saturday, as Gibraltar Pride 2022 took place, with members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies celebrating in solidarity. Read more

On Tuesday at 10.30am the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo will take to his feet in the Parliament chamber and set out Gibraltar’s spending and revenue plans for the financial year. In so doing, as the public look on with bated breath and more in hope than in expectation, he will reveal what taxes and charges go up and what comes down. Read more

Show to be held on Saturday 17th September
Following the news that No.1 Models has been selected to organise, produce and stage Miss Gibraltar 2022, its Director, Kelvin Hewitt, has announced that recruitment for this year’s show is open.
Kelvin is no beginner to organising pageants, as although it is his first time organising Miss Gibraltar, the show will be his 37th production, as he has been working within the industry for the last twelve years. Read more

As part of this month’s Development and Planning Commission, the proposed Caleta Hotel development was granted outline planning permission, in principle.
The scheme was in reference to the redevelopment of the Caleta Hotel, to provide a 5-star international brand hotel and residential development within two buildings to the North and South of the hotel. Read more
