Albares stamps personal authority on treaty outcome

On Monday in Brussels after a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers, Spain’s Jose Manuel Albares was unusually put on the spot. A journalist suggested that the Gibraltar treaty was taking so long because, according to the U.K., Spain was “playing dirty” and had changed the goalposts at the last minute.

Mr Albares remarked that he had never heard the United Kingdom make such an allegation before. But he knows full well how British diplomacy works.
