Sovereignty underlies Eastern Beach shooting incident

When Spain’s Servicio de Vigilancia Aduanera (SVA) were in pursuit of suspected smugglers in the early hours of Thursday, they must have realised that the chase was moving closer and closer to Gibraltar.

It is not as if they could miss the huge limestone giant that is the Rock resting peacefully in front of them, with residential lights flickering through a darkness pierced at regular intervals by the beam from the lighthouse at Europa Point. It would have been a good moment then to have called the Royal Gibraltar Police or HM Customs for assistance. This did not happen.
