SPECIAL REPORT by PETER TABERNER
As Tokyo limbers up to host the year-long delayed Olympics on July 23, Gibraltar will yet again be omitted from the international sporting showpiece.
This is despite repeated efforts from Gibraltar to be included in the Games, and have a team sent to a host city under the flag of the Rock.
It’s a situation which again reached a boiling point in October 2016, when Gibraltar again applied to be part of the Games as an independent squad, soon after the last Games in Rio had come to an end, only to be turned down.
Chief Minister Fabian Picardo was furious, and said that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) should be "ashamed of itself" over the decision.
