Transferring pollution from one area to another?
A reader posed the question that, regarding the proposed road closures, is there any evidence that the closures, as claimed by the Governm
ent, reduce the total amount of pollution and noise from traffic?
Isn't it much more likely that it will just redirect pollution and noise to the already polluted and noisy Queensway, thus creating detriment to the health and well being of residents of Queensway?
We put the question to the Government and this was their reply: We believe that as a package this will lead to less car use. With our proposed road closures, more buses and the introduction of car parking charges for locals we will see that people will find it beneficial to walk, cycle or take the bus - hence reducing traffic pollution generally in the areas concerned.
