Opening of New Primary Care Centre
The Primary Care Centre features over 40 clinical rooms with additional administration rooms, two floors and 27 General Practitioners along with Specialists, Mental Health Professionals, Counsellors and Psychologists. The development of the new Primary Care Centre has taken around 2 and a half years.
The registration and administration aspects of the PCC started today and will be part of the first of three phases which will take place one week after another, starting with the General Practitioners coming into the Primary Care Centre.
Minister for Health, Neil Costa said, “This infrastructural project is important because it integrates primary care with secondary care, and also follows hot on the heels of the Children’s Health Centre which we inaugurated on the 17th of July of this year. The new primary care centre is a magnificent project, it is spacious, it is airy and it is light.”
Chief Minister Fabian Picardo said, “When we look at what it is we are able to do and how we’re able to do it and we look at what the GHA is doing in this new facility, so close to the hospital, I think one of the key factors for me looking at the new facility is the ability to refer people who make the mistake of going to accidental emergency when they are suffering from neither an accident or an emergency and clogging up the system there for those who are, when where they need to be is looked after at the Primary Care Facility that can also look after walk ins etcetera as we have now reformed this facility to provide for.”
