Inauguration of St Paul’s Nursery
The Nursery has undergone extensive refurbishment and is part of Phase 1 of development at the St Paul’s First School, with Phase 2 consisting of the development of a new library and dining hall and Phase 3 consisting of knocking down the currently existing dining hall to make room for an outdoor tree area.
Previously Year 3 classrooms, the area has been redeveloped to accommodate those of nursery age. 4 classrooms have been put into the mix, completely remodelled to suit the nursery’s purpose.
Refurbishment began in Late May, early June, and still is currently undergoing further refurbishment. Teachers at the school are ecstatic with the development, as the remodelling provides nursery students the space to be able to play and learn easier.
IMPORTANT
“Every aspect of the educational journey is just as important. To me it’s not Secondary Schools because they have academic exams. No. I think that every part of the journey is important. And for us I think that we are the receiving ones. I think that if children have a positive, supportive, loved entry into that journey, I think that we set them up in a really good place for the rest of their journey,” said St Paul’s Headteacher Rosanna Hitchcock.
After unveiling the plaque of inauguration, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo said, “Thank you all for coming. It's a pleasure to have a chance to see this magnificent new facility. I've been completely blown away by the two classrooms I've seen, you can really feel that there is a new style into what we're doing. This is different education to the one that I remember. And it's the sort of education that I want to make sure that we have for all our children.”
“We are six schools down, six to go. we'll have a chance we hope to continue to do this work after the end of October. Otherwise, if we don't can I just ask whoever does that they continue with this very ambitious agenda. Because if we can't be ambitious about delivering new schools and delivering new nurseries and delivering for our children, then we can't be ambitious about anything. So I hope that those of you who will be in these new classrooms, enjoy them and take the benefit of them and give a benefit of them to our children. And those of you who are not yet in new classrooms and new areas, bear with us, we're getting there.”
Minister of Education, Dr John Cortes said, “Just a few words to thank everybody for their patience and pulling up all the work. This is a very important message to put to those other schools that are not being replaced anew that they are going to be all upgraded to the same standard. We've started with St. Paul's, it was easier to do and needed a lot of work, but we're also working on St. Joseph's first and middle and therefore we want to send the message out that all our children will have the same standard of classrooms and facilities just as they have the same standard of teachers.
DESERVED
And I thank you all for your patience, your commitment, and for bringing what you bring to the journey that we are on and as the Chief Minister says, if we're not here in a couple of weeks time I really hope that whoever is carries on this agenda as you guys and the children deserve it.”
