New St. Anne’s, Bayside and Westside schools officially open this week
Students have already been enjoying life at their new school since term began a week ago, and will continue to enjoy life in the school long into the future.
St Anne’s Middle School has been serving the community since 1946 and the old school was situated right next door to the old Bayside building. This new building, situated next door to Notre Dame First School, boasts a plentiful amount of water fountains and encourages students to bring their own reusable water bottles in order to reduce waste in the form of plastic.
The school features impressive classrooms, sports facilities, science and music rooms and an impressive roof area with nice views of the surrounding area.
The Chief Minister, before unveiling a plaque for the opening of the school and a start of an eras, said:
‘There is absolutely no better way to spend and invest taxpayer’s money than investing in the future of the younger community. In investing in the tools that our teachers now have at their disposal to impart the knowledge that they give future generations of Gibraltarians. I make absolutely no apology whatsoever for having invested your money in this way, in this place and for this purpose. It’s the right thing to do. Thank you very much indeed to everyone who has worked on this project, not least to the Teachers at St Anne’s who the last couple of weeks working on the weekends with us to deliver this school in time for the beginning of the term. Thank you to all of you, it’s all about the children and they take the benefit out of all this.’
