This year's Christmas stamps
The set of stamps have been designed by local graphics artist Mr Stephen Perera and feature historic paintings of the birth of Jesus Christ from the following artists;
22p: ‘Adoration of the Magi’ 1520-1525, by Bernardino Luini - Bernardino Luini (c. 1480/82 – June 1532) was a North Italian painter from Leonardo’s circle. Both Luini and Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio were said to have worked with Leonardo directly.
40p: ‘Nativity’ 1437-1445, by Fra Angelico - Fra Angelico (born Guido di Pietro; c. 1395 - February 18, 1455) was an Italian painter of the Early Renaissance, described by Vasari in his Lives of the Artists as having “a rare and perfect talent”.
64p: ‘The Nativity’ from ‘Adoration of the Magi’ by Gentile da Fabriano - Gentile da Fabriano (c. 1370 – 1427) was an Italian painter known for his participation in the International Gothic painter style. He worked in various places in central Italy, mostly in Tuscany.
70p: Nativity and Annunciation to the Shepherd by Bernardino Luini - Bernardino Luini (c. 1480/82 – June 1532) was a North Italian painter from Leonardo’s circle. Both Luini and Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio were said to have worked with Leonardo directly.
80p: The adoration of the Magi (c. 4 BC) by Gentile Da Fabriano - Gentile da Fabriano (c. 1370 – 1427) was an Italian painter known for his participation in the International Gothic painter style. He worked in various places in central Italy, mostly in Tuscany.
£2: ‘Adoration of the Magi’ by Giotto (1267-1337) Giotto di Bondone known mononymously as Giotto, was an Italian painter and architect from Florence during the Late Middle Ages. He worked during the Gothic/Proto-Renaissance period.
£3: Holy Family by Johann Martin, 1790. Johann Martin Metz was a kurkölnisch court painter in Bonn. Metz was employed at an early stage of his career at the court of the Prince Elector,
