Royal Gibraltar Police has introduced Taser devices for its frontline armed police officers.
The Taser is a Conducted Energy Device (CED) and is a less lethal weapon system designed to temporarily incapacitate a subject through the use of an electrical current which temporarily interferes with the body’s neuromuscular system and produces a sensation of intense pain. Read more

The UK Government has announced a raft of reforms set to protect UK workers, including the closure of loopholes that allow agency workers to be employed on cheaper rates than permanent employees. The reforms follow a report produced by Mathew Taylor (CEO of the Royal Society of the Arts) on employment practices in the UK which the Prime Minister had commissioned in 2016. The reforms were rightly described by Business Secretary, Greg Clark, has the “largest upgrade in workers’ rights in [the UK] over a generation”. Read more

As disclosed in PANORAMA yesterday, the Spanish Senate has considered a motion calling for a joint sovereignty deal for Gibraltar. Voting on the motion has now taken place and it has been approved by 139 votes in favour, 94 against and four abstentions. Read more

On 1 June 2012, the Spanish Government filed a complaint with the European Commission claiming that the Income Tax Act 2010 (the “ITA 2010”) as whole constituted unlawful State aid. In particular, the Spanish Government considered that the aim of the ITA 2010 was to maintain the offshore tax regime that the Gibraltar Government had put an end to when it abolished the legislation on exempt and qualifying companies.
