Senior officials of the Gibraltar and United Kingdom Governments continued their positive engagement on planning for a no deal Brexit this week. A day-long meeting in Gibraltar centred on citizen’s rights and migration issues including the border.
The officials were joined by the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia for part of the meeting.
The Government repeats its reminder to businesses and citizens to continue their own preparations for a no deal Brexit. Read more

The Self Determination for Gibraltar Group has announced the programme of events for this year’s Gibraltar National Day on Tuesday 10th September. The events are being organised by the SDGG, with the Gibraltar Cultural Services collaborating and assisting the SDGG to ensure the smooth running of all events. Read more

Officers of HM Customs Flexible Anti-Smuggling Team have arrested two men, both in their thirties, on suspicion of being in possession of 80 grams of cocaine. One of them is local whilst the other is a British national resident in Spain. Read more

The Governor or anyone else holding a privileged and high position in Gibraltar cannot and certainly should not, use their office as a tool to silence journalists or the important issue at the centre of this report ‘intentionally keep information of national interest away from the media’.
This unfortunate latter set of circumstances is what Governor Ed Davies has been silently practicing from his bunker at the Convent, while flagrantly ignoring repeated questions by Panorama on issues of huge national interest to Gibraltar! Read more

The Complaints Handling Scheme Office (CHS), which was part of the Ombudsman's Office but has operated at arms-length from the Office during the past two years, has been merged with the 'Patients Advocacy and Liaison Service' ("PALS"), which has been set up by the Gibraltar Health Authority ("GHA"). The main reason for this was to improve the complaints handling service to the public by having a single office at the hospital to deal with complaints, in the first instance. It seems to be working well and there has been a reduction in the number of complaints received directly by the Ombudsman. A total of 21 complaints received by the Ombudsman's Office related to the GHA as the majority of health complaints (which used to be tackled in previous years by the CHS) are now being dealt with by PALS at the hospital. Another important archaeological find has been unearthed as part of mechanical excavation works at the frontier access tunnel. This follows from the archaeological watching brief that is being carried out by Astarté, the contracted archaeologists for the airport project. This find reinforces the importance of having this kind of over-watch whenever contractors carry out ground works. Read more
