The Chief Minister Fabian Picardo yesterday asked HE the Governor Sir David Steel to dissolve Parliament and issue a writ for a general election on Thursday 12 October. There had been widespread speculation that an election was imminent and Mr Picardo has, perhaps not unexpectedly, called it straight after National Day. Read more

Following his speech, Mr Picardo answered questions from local media outlets.
Firstly, one question stated that in the 2019 elections, the GSLP/Liberals fought ‘on the basis that you said that you were the only part that could get Brexit done, and get a safe and secure deal for Gibraltar’ and that four years later he is ‘asking for that same mandate again, so what would you say to those who might accuse you of having failed to secure that mandate first time round?’ Read more

Gibraltar marked its first proper National Day celebration since 2019 on Sunday and for many it had been a long time coming. The Rock and its people were decked in red and white, the colours of Gibraltar, while the blue of the Union Jack was also present in many areas. The people of Gibraltar celebrated in style. Read more
