The Strategic Coordinating Group dealing with the water situation met this morning at No.6 Convent Place. The meeting was chaired by the Minister for Public Utilities, Albert Isola.
The Government’s Technical Service’s Department have advised that they are now in a position to re-open Europa Advance Road from 10am tomorrow. Read more

Students received their GCSE results yesterday at Bayside and Westside Schools alongside the Gibraltar College. The results were issued electronically on Thursday morning.
WESTSIDE
Westside Student Karenza Daswani said: “This morning I was really nervous, but then when I opened my results I was really happy. I am going to go onto do A-Levels and plan on going to University” she said. Her twin, Karizma Daswani also stated she was nervous, but felt relieved. She added: “I am going to do Biology, Maths and Chemistry in the hopes of studying Medicine in the future.” Read more

The question always arises as to why Spain is allowed to create difficulties at the frontier with American personnel who consequently have to turn back because they are stopped from entering into Gibraltar. Curiously, in 1997, the Commissioner President Jaques Santer and his wife visited the Rock privately. Apparently they endured a queue of nearly two hours, which they thought ludicrous to the extreme. On Monday, August 22nd 20222, the ladies who are due to compete in the Mrs Gibraltar Classic 2022 beauty pageant chose their official contestant numbers.
Held at the iconic Catalan Bay Beach, each contestant had to pick a number randomly contained in a bottle. Read more

Gibraltar has always prided itself on the bilingual nature of its people, who for decades have been largely fluent in both English and Spanish to varying degrees. Yet at some point something changed and Spanish is now used less and less particularly by the younger generation.
IDENTITY
The identity of a people is an evolving concept. This means that it is not stuck in a time wharp and the factors which contribute to the make-up of a nation often changes as the decades go by. The role of language is no exception to the rule. It is interesting to see how Gibraltar has gradually transformed itself from a society where Spanish was spoken at home and English was spoken in school and at work, to a society where the degree of Spanish spoken has reduced considerably. The news that the Gibraltar FA now has its school program up and running will be welcome by many sports lovers. This comes with the added bonus that these football sessions are meant to incorporate all children, no matter their ability.
