The Government will shortly commence the distribution of a commemorative book on the closure of the border to schoolchildren all over Gibraltar.
Over eight thousand books were printed to mark 50 years of the closure of the land frontier with Spain by General Franco in 1969. Read more

Drugs today in Gibraltar are stronger, cheaper, more freely available and more dangerous than they ever have been. No big surprise really, when geographically we have been cursed living next to a nation who for the past 10 years has ranked first in the European Union for cocaine/cannabis consumption and in terms of trafficking. Both latter practices have rubbed off on a number of locals and residents alike: ‘It’s not going to get any better as long as the Money and the Urge to Consume it is there’. The Gibraltar Port Authority was recently invited to speak at the 8th Annual Mediterranean Bunker Fuel Conference held in Athens. The conference focused on how well prepared the supply chain was for the 2020 Sulphur Cap and what the potential ramifications were for the shipping industry. Read more

The Government has awarded a tender for the clearing of vegetation at The Mount, which marks the start of preparatory works on this important site. It will be recalled that the transformation of The Mount was a key pledge made by the GSLP/Liberals at the last general election and this is now the policy of the new Government. This will become another open, green area and develop into a Commonwealth Park with woodland in the south of Gibraltar.
These preparatory works for the removal of some vegetation are necessary in order to determine the condition of the structures, the paths and the walls. The site has become overgrown and dense in many areas and this needs to be addressed as a preliminary to the work that is to follow. Read more

When somebody pays out money it’s usually for a service or something they have purchased. Parking your vehicle in a pay and display parking area is no different. Well, that’s what I thought, until once again this week, one of the pay and display machines on Line Wall Road decided to short change me in a devious like manner, by spitting out of the pay and display ticket machine, a ticket that recorded not only an hour less, but also £2 short in change that should have been returned from the original £3 inserted into the machine for a 2-hour parking slot! Gibraltar’s Minister for Digital and Financial Services, Albert Isola, will participate in the Ministerial Panel at the upcoming Hainan Free Trade Zone Global Digital Economic Cooperation Forum. Gibraltar Cultural Services staged the first ever Cultural Awards last night. These awards recognise cultural potential, ability, talent and achievement, whilst at the same supporting the community’s cultural development.
The selection process included an open invitation for nominations, a nominations list approved by the Cultural Awards Committee and a public vote. Read more

Yesterday was the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. While much has been done for disabled people over the last decade, the current system on benefits and sheltered employment needs to be improved significantly to ensure that people with disabilities can enjoy equal opportunities and best possible quality of life.” said Daniel Feetham, adding that the party will be raising these issues in Parliament to lobby for effective changes.
