SMALL NATIONS EXPERTS IGNORED
The Gibraltar FA is said to have ignored the Malta FA’s advice on a ‘perfect football formula’ for small nations prior to UEFA acceptance that would have protected local players. This is according to former GFA Manager Allen Bula, who was part of the local delegation fully-paid by UEFA sent to the island back in 2012 on a fact-finding mission.
“The MFA President dropped a huge file containing all the administrative information the association had been working on for years to optimise Maltese football,” he said. “He gave us permission to merely change the ‘M’ for a ‘G’ in the document and use it as we would have seen fit.” Read more

A representative from the University of Gibraltar was in Miami last week to promote the University’s new Maritime Science programmes.
The ‘Cruise Jobs Fair’ event, which was primarily aimed at those looking to work in the cruise ship industry, proved to be a beneficial platform from which to promote the accelerated BSc (Hons) Maritime Science programmes which start at the University in September 2020. Read more

The Airport Fire and Rescue Service’s Senior Fire Officer, Nicky Vinales, recently attended a Multi-Agency Gold Incident Command (MAGIC) course at the Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, UK.
The MAGIC course is a Tri-Service venture between the College of Policing, National Fire Chiefs Council and the National Ambulance Resilience Unit aimed primarily at Category 1 responders who would normally perform a Strategic (Gold) Command role for their organisation during a major incident or civil emergency. On this occasion, the course attendees came from diverse professional backgrounds comprising officers from a number of UK Police forces, Fire Brigades, Regional Ambulance services, NHS, Environment Agency, HM Coastguard and the Military. A football era shrouded by incompetence and crises spanning over six years will enter a new age via a restructure of the Gibraltar FA hierarchy.
The recent audit conducted by UEFA recommended football operations specialist Nicolaus Marshall revealed ‘shortcomings’ with the day to day running of the heavily criticised association. As a result the axe fell on GFA General Secretary Dennis Beiso, whose leadership role has been questioned by many within the local football community. Read more

The Gibraltar Naval Trust has commenced what they describe as 'an exciting project' involving the construction of new accommodation.
Adds Lieut Commander Warren Haynes, RN, Fund Manager/Trustee: In Summer 2020, the Trust will open purpose-built accommodation, 3 mins from the airport, each fitted with full air conditioning, full disabled access and adjacent to the service family’s accommodation development at Four Corners. As all Honourable Members are aware, the result of the General Election last week in the United Kingdom has returned a Conservative Government led Prime Minister Johnson with an overall majority.
I was in touch with Prime Minister Johnson last week when I extended the congratulations of the People of Gibraltar to him and his Government.
In response, the Prime Minister reiterated directly to me his continued and entirely fulsome support for Gibraltar. Read more

The outcome of the UK general election means that the United Kingdom and Gibraltar will leave the European Union on 31 January, the Chief Minister has said. However, that departure will be with an agreement and with a transitional period which will apply to Gibraltar. Such agreement protects the position of Gibraltar on exit. Read more
