Twelve young people and four Youth & Community Workers from Gibraltar Youth Service embarked on a five-day residential trip to London on New Year's Day. The trip was the culmination of months of hard work by the young people and staff alike. Read more

Unite, the union for workers in Gibraltar, has written to Minister Licudi to seek an “injection of urgent enthusiasm into the question of adequate training” for the young people of Gibraltar following the Minister’s acquisition of the education portfolio in government following the general election in October 2019. CHIEF MINISTER'S NEW YEAR MESSAGE 2020
My dear friends I hope you have all enjoyed restful and uneventful Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year celebrations. Our Hindu and Muslim brethren have also peacefully enjoyed their Diwali and Eid festivals respectively throughout the year.
Once again, it has been a year of plenty in most of our homes. Children delighted with presents, and tables bountifully laden with nothing but the best to indulge in. These days are also days of reflection. Tonight, as Christmas trees come down and we return to our daily routines, I want to share with you some thoughts about the year to come. Read more

A plan is afoot to recycle Christmas trees. The Department of the Environment, Sustainability, Climate Change and Heritage has introduced a Christmas tree recycling programme for the disposal of 'real Christmas trees'.
The species generally used for Christmas trees, even if rooted, will not survive in Gibraltar’s climate. Recycling trees, or turning them into mulch, is a way to give back to the environment after the festive period by minimising the amount of waste going to landfill. Mulching trees can also be used to help protect soils in Gibraltar's green areas such as parks and gardens. Read more

The Ministry of Business, Tourism and Transport, in conjunction with GibSams, are pleased to announce the rollout of an awareness campaign by way of informational posters throughout bus shelters, bus stop signposts, as well as on the Gibraltar Bus Company fleet buses. GibSams initially approached the Ministry to seek their support in an attempt to better inform the general public of their valued service to the community, particularly during the past couple of years where there has been a concerning incidence of suicides. With the dawning of a New Year, the remaining vestiges of colonialism ought to be removed from this British Rock of ours - and I will reiterate what I have said in the past, that Gibraltar should be granted Royal City status.
In fact, that we be known as the Royal City State of Gibraltar.

Gibraltar will emerge successful whatever happens, says Garcia Gibraltar, together with the United Kingdom, will leave the European Union at the end of this month. This will mark the end of an era. It will bring to a close some 46 years of membership of the club and will open the door to new opportunities elsewhere.

Gibraltarian artist Mario Finlayson has died. He was 92.
He won many local and international art awards. Apart from his many paintings, he designed many theatre and ballet sets and a number of murals. Read more
