A storm appears to be brewing over the fate of Spanish frontier workers, with the association of Spanish workers ASCTEG saying that Spaniards are being dismissed.
Their spokesman Juan Jose Uceda referred yesterday to the dismissals, and also to other problems with those employed to look after disabled and others needing care. Read more

‘Gibraltar for Yes’ will be launched this Saturday with the aim of highlighting the importance of voting Yes at the upcoming Abortion Referendum on the 19th March. The campaign is an alliance between No More Shame Gibraltar, Choice Gibraltar, Secular Humanist Society of Gibraltar and Feminist Gibraltar, all of which submitted responses to the Government’s Command Paper on Abortion in 2018. Special Olympics Gibraltar will once again be hosting the Gareth Cowin Futsal Tournament this weekend when teams from Special Olympics Isle of Man and Algeciras will be visiting to battle it out against Special Olympics Gibraltar in the 6th year of this event. Having won for the last 3 years there will be a lot of pressure on the local lads to repeat their previous successes in what is always a very hard fought competition. Read more

Governor's try not to meddle in local political controversy, but Lieut General Ed Davis perhaps wants to be remembered for doing the reverse.
At least Opposition Leader Keith Azopardi will not forget him for what he thinks was an indiscretion.
There was the Governor, according to Mr Azopardi, expressing views on matters of local political controversy in an interview in the Chronicle, which was controlled by the military until 1976, and he may have thought that the military were still in charge. Read more

With an eye on the forthcoming Brexit talks between Britain, Spain and Gibraltar, the La Linea municipality headed by mayor Juan Franco has produced a confidential document asking for the joint use of the Gibraltar airport, which they say would be a big boost for the La Linea economy. Read more

The local branch of the Royal British Legion has announced that last year’s traditional Poppy Day collection raised some £15,000.
The Poppy Day Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign held every year in November, the period of Remembrance. The first Poppy Appeal was held in 1921, the founding year of The Royal British Legion. The Poppy represents all those who lost their lives on active service in all conflicts; from the beginning of the First World War right up to the present day. Read more

I honestly don’t know what Gibraltar is coming to. On Friday daytime, whilst inside a shop in Main Street, all of us there were startled by the most raucous noise, which sounded like a huge following of football fans, who were literally roaring and singing at the tops of their voices, God knows what Spanish chant. As they came closer it was very unnerving. When they came past, obviously having the time of their lives and looking around in a defiant way to see if anyone was going to comment, this MASS of young Spaniards continued on their way.
