Yesterday, the Governor Lieutenant General Edward Davis departed local shores after completing a full-term in office of four years. Panorama, understands from informed sources, that an extension was sought for the Governor to remain for a further year. Obviously, this was not granted, as yesterday’s departure from Gibraltar by Ed Davies and his wife confirmed. We can only wish them well for the future! Read more

Calling all lovers of pancakes and supporters of Cancer Relief! As a result of the success of five previous Pancake Days and following many requests, we will be serving delicious pancakes all day from 10am to 5.30pm on Shrove Tuesday 25th February at the Calpe Rowing Club, 6 Europort Road. The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia has told the European Policy Centre in Brussels that border fluidity for all - for residents, tourists and workers - equals greater prosperity for all.

This is the second of a two-part report on policing, with special focus on the functions of the Gibraltar Police Authority (GPA). Yesterday the report titled “The Gibraltar Police (Quango) Authority Lacks Transparency and Accountability”. I explained the GPA’s statuary duties and responsibilities, highlighting how this presumably independent police body, is not delivering on those important and fundamental obligations enshrined in law. In those vital areas, of maintenance of police standards, efficiency and effectiveness. But also failing, in providing robust and effective mechanisms for enhanced police accountability through a process of consultation with the community. Read more

On the 22nd of February Scouts and Guides worldwide celebrate Founder’s Day to mark the birthday of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting, and coincidentally also of his wife Lady Olave Baden-Powell.
This day is also referred to as Thinking Day, as it is an occasion for Scouts and Guides around the world to remember that they are part of a worldwide Movement. It is the occasion to remind them of the Promise that they have taken and reflect on what it is about Scouting that brings so many young people and adults together for the cause of creating a better world. There were three incursions by the Spanish of British Gibraltar Territorial Waters, encouraged by the weak response from the the British Forces Command, in allowing such unfriendly incursions to continue to take place over the years, are allowing Madrid to increasingly claim that the waters are Spanish.
A state vessel belonging to 'Servicio de Vigilancia Aduanera' seemingly went on to engage a local boat in British territorial waters. The UK response is just an ineffective standard protest note. Read more

The Chief Minister yesterday met Jose Maria Román, the Mayor of Chiclana and Vice President of the Diputación of Cádiz, at No6 Convent Place.
The Spanish mayor and business leaders came here to discuss industrial and touristic objectives, said reports in Spain. There were companies related to the naval sector who met representatives of the commercial dockyard. Read more
