It seems, depending how one feels, it’s not always a good time to be of a certain age, the coronavirus pandemic may have confirmed those thoughts.
Not only is Covid-19 potentially more dangerous for those who are older (as well as for those with weak immune systems and those with other underlying health conditions), but it seems, all you hear every day in the news, press briefings and on social media is the dreaded term ‘vulnerable’. The founding of the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Support Group began in 2008 by a “a group of people who were experiencing in their day to day lives extreme difficulties whilst caring for family members living with dementia”. Later in 2014, they changed its name to GADs, the Gibraltar Alzheimer’s and Dementia Society. The society is “here to assist and support people living with dementia their families and carers and to help and progress in their care and treatment. We are committed to ensuring that people in Gibraltar living with dementia and their families receive the appropriate care and support, at the right time, at the right place and that they are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve”. GADs is here to make dementia a “PRIORITY; to transform dementia services with the aim of achieving early diagnosis and high quality care and support at whatever stages of the disease; for greater openness, knowledge and understanding about dementia”. No sanitizers on site
According to a reliable source, at Eroski`s supermarket at the airport on Thursday of last week, as they entered the store from the exit side which was the only entrance open, there was no sanitizer on site for one’s hands, nor was there anyone sanitizing the bars of the shopping trolleys as they were carried in. Not very reassuring! Read more

It was VE Day, and in conjunction with the daily tribute and salute to our front guards (our essential and emergency services) during this pandemic, a drummer and two buglers of the Gibraltar Band and Drums Association performed a salute ceremony at the Cross of Sacrifice. Read more
