It is always a sad, fatalistic occasion when a newspaper closes down and ceases to exist.
Unlike any other business that goes under, the economic repercussions and direct effect on owners and employees will have a further corollary, as the death of a newspaper is a subliminal obituary for that part of democracy that thrives on the unrestricted flow of news, informed debate and analysis.
