In light of the recent local election results in Spain on the 28-29th May and with the wavering popularity of the PSOE, a change from a socialist government to a right-wing administration may seem inevitable.
What this change would entail for Gibraltar and for the state of Gib-Exit negotiations has become a subject of notable concern.
GAINS In the Spanish regional elections held on the 28th May 2023 the right wing PP and Vox made significant gains on the back of the parties on the centre left (Unidas Podemos and PSOE). Subsequently, the socialist parties have only managed to narrowly retain three of Spain’s twelve regions as the PP’s vote share reached 31.5% with renewed dominance in La Rioja, Valencia and Aragon.
