“IT WAS A HUMBLING HONOUR TO BE ABLE TO REPRESENT THE GIBRALTAR I SO DEARLY LOVE”: Said Miss Gibraltar 1998 Melanie Soiza-Stagnetto
by MEGAN STRINGER
Melanie Soiza-Stagnetto is a name you may have heard a lot around Gibraltar over the last few years due to her involvement with The Nautilus Project, a marine conservation charity that she co-founded.
Although, what you might not know is that she participated in the Miss Gibraltar beauty pageant twice. Once in 1994, in which she became 2nd Princess, and again in 1998 where she ended up winning and receiving the Miss Gibraltar title.
Explaining what initially made her interested in entering the beauty pageant, Melanie said it was her mum who would call up the Tourist Board every year in hopes that she would agree to enter. “It became a household joke when I’d receive a call asking if I was interested, knowing full well my Mum was scheming in the background. I declined every year much to her dismay,” she said.
