When looking at local male dancers, Jonathan Lutwyche is probably at the top of his game both abroad and at home with dance. I spoke to him about his dance upbringing, his influences over the years and his rise to becoming part of The Lion King musical.

His past year in the pandemic made him reflect on what to do in the future when he can’t dance anymore. He’s not certain what he wants to do when he retires however he’s certain that he will go into teaching in the future.
The major differences he faced himself artistically and personally would be setting his mind primarily to ‘dance and life in general’. The pandemic gave him the opportunity to be grateful of his support system that has been there for him, he also learnt not to be so hard on himself and his dancing. He states that ‘as performers I think it’s natural to be over critical on ourselves to help us strive in what we do’.
