The UK's total coronavirus death toll is higher than previously announced, new data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has shown this morning.
These figures show there were 40 additional deaths before March 20. The new data now includes those who died outside hospitals, including those who passed away in their own homes and care homes. This information comes after a counter terrorism chief warned police about being "over zealous" as they enforce new lockdown rules. Neil Basu, the Met's assistant commissioner, issued the warning as the UK's Covid-19 death toll rose to 1,408 - an increase of 180 in 24 hours. Transport Minister Grant Shapps said there may be examples where police had gone further than they should, but force bosses have denied that Britain is becoming a "police state". - mirror.co.uk
