"This connection dates back to the capture of Gibraltar in 1704 by the Royal Marines and has continued through the centuries to the present day," they recall.
Gibraltar is understandably proud of those links. "This project would be worked upon with local expertise and also with UK military and heritage organisations," says the Alliance.
In one of his articles, Joe Garcia said that the old Fortress Headquarters would be an excellent site for the museum, given that it overlooks historic Rosia Bay where HMS Victory was at berth with Nelson's body onboard.
In fact, having a replica of HMS Victory would complete a fine decision - and it is quite possible that the project could be funded by the pro-Nelson associations in Britain.
It would be a great tourist attraction, also, with the 10-ton gun and Parson's Lodge also in the area.
