He left for Bristol buoyed by the strong performance of the Liberal Democrats in the local government elections in England last week, which saw the party win hundreds of seats. This has come about as a result of a clear and unequivocal position for remaining in the European Union and for a referendum to take place, now that the full implications of Brexit are better understood.
Mr Stagnetto said: “It is in our best interests for the United Kingdom and Gibraltar to remain in the European Union and that is exactly the position that I am defending as part of the Liberal Democrat team.
"My pledge is an absolute commitment to continue to work to stop Brexit.
"I am very much looking forward to return to Bristol to launch the campaign together with the rest of the candidates for the Combined Region of the South West and Gibraltar. My presence will put Gibraltar on the electoral map.
"It will be recalled that 67% of the voting electorate in Gibraltar voted Liberal Democrat in the 2014 European elections partly due to the hard work in defence of our rights by Lib Dem MEP Sir Graham Watson.”
