The Government wants to make better use of an area in Wellington Front - and that's a good idea. No permanent fixtures will be allowed, and of course the heritage aspect of the area must be taken into account.

So, individuals and companies with any bright ideas should submit their plans - and there must be many ideas that could be put into practice, because in our travels to other parts of the world we are bound to have seen many areas done up for the enjoyment of all.

There are a number of areas that have received special treatment in the past but generally it all tends to be with bars and restaurants.

Nothing wrong with that, indeed there could be projects which would be improved further by having such facilities as well, but the central amenity or amenities should be...well, quite an original idea.
