Eyes set on Heaven

'Eyes set on heaven' by Joe Caruana is the title of a book about to be launched about the life story of his brother, Bishop Charles Caruana. The book will be launched later today by Speaker Adolfo Canepa.

Says Joe Caruana: "I can ssure readers that the many words of praise in these pages are not mine, but rather they come from the many persons whom I have interviewed and quoted, people who knew him intimately."

And he adds: For this reason Father Caruana's life story needs to be told, particularly his exemplary priestly life as witnessed by so many of his friends. As testified by many, there is no doubt that he left his own unique mark in our community. The obituaries about him in the press stress how much the public loved and respected him, some describing him as a saintly person and at the same time as was a man full of humanity that was out of the ordinary.

The layout and design of the book is by Anselmo Albert Torres. It is nearly 300 pages in length.

From the Egyptian link of the family, the Maltese connection, to Gibraltar, and so much more.

There comes Father Caruana's evacuation story during the second world war, his ordination in 1959 and the many developments henceforth.

A worthy addition to Gibraltar's book world, and the many great Gibraltarians who have made up this community, of which he stands out as a shining example.
